Shadow Of The AlMighty
S.O.T.A.M Futbol Academy is a non-profit Christian-Based soccer academy.
As a Non-Profit, our goal is to reach families and communities that would otherwise not have the opportunity to sign their children up to an organized soccer academy.
As an academy, our goal is to build student athletes and create a safe space for everyone and anyone trying to learn/develop in the game of soccer.
S.O.T.A.M's mission is to provide a fun, competitive, learning environment through which students reach academic excellence and personal development!
S.O.T.A.M loves soccer, but we also love academics!
Studybol is a program that we started back in 2016. This program was created in light of a decline in academic standings within our academy. We wanted to create a place that would help our students reach their academic goals while reaching their athletic goals, while also learning from a young age the responsibility of a student athlete. Every Wednesday we meet up before training for 30-45 minutes and work on homework/projects. We bring our coaches and staff to help tutor our students with their work. If they do not bring homework, we provide a worksheet provided to us by the D.R.E.A.M Curriculum. (http://www.rypeak.com/RYP/RYP_Home.html) In addition, our academy offers a membership package which functions as Year-Round format. Throughout the year we host; leagues, tournaments, clinics, & camps. Our open-door policy allows this year-round format to work as we accept new members at any time of our program year and without a try-out. New players and players with experience are all welcome! We work with 8 dedicated coaches who are prepared to take every student to a new level - all of which have been or are currently Student Athletes. We have chosen the approach of using College Students as coaches because we want our students to have someone they can relate to and create a bond with, one they wouldn't be able to create if they had traditional coaches or a parent coach. Our students have the opportunity to witness first-hand the kind of success we envision for them...
"Successful Student Athletes with multiple doors opening for them in whatever it is they want to achieve"
S.O.T.A.M was created in the vision of its founder, JuanCarlos Cruz. Born in El Salvador, he came to Maryland as a child and became the first member of his family to attend college. After graduation, Juan Carlos decided to support other immigrant families by mentoring children in his community.
In March 2015, SOTAM began with only 4 children in our 1st six-week clinic program. Over the course of the next 2 months, we expanded to serve 30 children in 2 six-week clinic programs. Membership demand continued to expand through word of mouth among the families in our community. During 2015, we were able to establish the following teams: U8Boys, U10 Boys, U12 Boys and launched our girls program as well. On March 6, 2016, we celebrated our one-year anniversary with more than 60 children enrolled!
